Seu nomne aparece mencionado na B\u00edblia Cat\u00f3lica, no texto da Ep\u00edstola de S\u00e3o Paulo para Tim\u00f3tio (4:21). Como papa testemunhou a queda de alguns imperadores romanos e a destrui\u00e7\u00e3o de Jerusal\u00e9m. Combateu firmemente a feiti\u00e7aria e os falsos mission\u00e1rios que tentavam adulterar a doutrina crist\u00e3.\n\nConata que sagrou 15 bispos e 18 sacerdotes em duas ordena\u00e7\u00f5es coletivas, retransmitindo-lhes os ensinamentos crist\u00e3os deixados por seu criador, Jesus Cristo, ao considerado primeiro papa, S\u00e3o Pedro, e a seus outros ap\u00f3stolos.\n\nTamb\u00e9m morreu martirizado, decapitado por ordens do c\u00f4nsul Satunino, segunda a tradi\u00e7\u00e3o ap\u00f3s ter curado sua pr\u00f3pria filha, foi sepultado no hoje Vaticano, e foi sucedido pelo papa de n\u00famero 3, S\u00e3o Anacleto, tamb\u00e9m chamado Cleto (76-88).
