Papa Greg\u00f3rio I – (540 – 604)<\/h2>\n

\"Greg\u00f3rio<\/p>\nPapa cat\u00f3lico (590 – 604) nascido em Roma, considerado um dos pais da Igreja moderna ao reafirmar o papel da igreja como aglutinadora da sociedade crist\u00e3. Filho do romano Gordiano, que mais tarde ingressou no estado eclesi\u00e1stico, e da nobre S\u00edlvia, que por sua vez terminou seus dias num retiro em obras pias, tamb\u00e9m descendia do papa S\u00e3o F\u00e9lix III.\n\nEstudou direito e ocupou altos postos civis como o de pretor de Roma, algo como prefeito da cidade. Atra\u00eddo pela vida religiosa abandonou o posto (575), distribuiu toda sua riqueza com os pobres, tornou-se monge em Roma e transformou o pal\u00e1cio da fam\u00edlia, no Monte C\u00e9lio, no mosteiro de Santo Andr\u00e9 e fundou seis novos mosteiros em suas terras na Sic\u00edlia, todos segundo a regra de s\u00e3o Bento.\n\nFoi enviado como embaixador do papa (579) por Pel\u00e1gio II, a corrupta Biz\u00e2ncio\/Constantinopla, onde impressionou com suas virtudes e conhecimento cient\u00edficos, ali permanecendo por seis anos. De volta a Roma e com a morte de Pel\u00e1gio, estava bem preparado para ser pont\u00edfice e foi eleito papa (590), com o nome de Greg\u00f3rio I.\n\nFoi felicitado com alegria pelo imperador Maur\u00edcio e pelo povo, tendo algumas pessoas afirmado que viram, nos c\u00e9us, um anjo embainhando a espada contra a peste, que realmente declinou at\u00e9 desaparecer. Mente vasta e profunda e de extraordin\u00e1ria energia, mostrou-se competente conversor do Cristianismo.\n\nSeu papado caracterizou-se pelo esfor\u00e7o de reorganiza\u00e7\u00e3o e restaura\u00e7\u00e3o da igreja. Notabilizou-se por extraordin\u00e1ria administra\u00e7\u00e3o, reformando todos os servi\u00e7os p\u00fablicos, os rituais e sistematiza\u00e7\u00e3o dos salmos sagrados e, assim, desenvolveu as bases da igreja moderna com um elenco de reformas que atingiu bispos, padres, mosteiros, c\u00e2nticos, fun\u00e7\u00f5es religiosas como Sacrament\u00e1rio, Esta\u00e7\u00f5es ou Rezas populares e Missal, etc.\n\nAdmirado at\u00e9 pelos inimigos de sua f\u00e9, foi um lutador em defesa de seu povo e da f\u00e9: combateu contra Agilulfo longobardo e contra Jo\u00e3o Jejuadorcism\u00e1tico. No seu pontificado os Visigodos da Espanha voltaram ao catolicismo e os Longobardos abandonaram o cristianismo.\n\nCombateu a simonia, venda de benef\u00edcios eclesi\u00e1sticos, as heresias, extinguiu o paganismo na C\u00f3rsega e na Sardenha. Tamb\u00e9m lutou contra a incontin\u00eancia e o jogo e preocupou-se com as condi\u00e7\u00f5es de vida do povo, empenhando-se na ajuda a popula\u00e7\u00f5es afetadas pela fome, por pestes e inunda\u00e7\u00f5es do Tibre.\n\nIntroduziu a f\u00f3rmula Servus servorum Dei (servo dos servos de Deus) como t\u00edtulo dos papas. Divulgou milagres, reformulou a liturgia e promoveu a codifica\u00e7\u00e3o do cantoch\u00e3o, que a partir de ent\u00e3o passou a ser conhecido de Canto Gregoriano. Incentivou a a\u00e7\u00e3o mission\u00e1ria, inclusive enviando santo Agostinho de Cantu\u00e1ria \u00e0 Inglaterra com quarenta monges, para evangelizar as ilhas brit\u00e2nicas, e difundiu a ordem beneditina por toda a Europa ocidental.\n\nConseguiu negociar a paz com os b\u00e1rbaros lombardos, que amea\u00e7avam Roma, e unificar o territ\u00f3rio da igreja, constituindo o patrim\u00f4nio de S\u00e3o Pedro, base do futuro Estado Pontif\u00edcio. Ex\u00edmio escritor divulgou cerca de 900 cartas, os Di\u00e1logos, as Morais de J\u00f3 etc, sendo que sua mais importante obra escrita foi Liber regulae pastoris, livro que serviu de base para a forma\u00e7\u00e3o do clero na Idade M\u00e9dia e \u00e9 ainda hoje um cl\u00e1ssico da vida espiritual.\n
